Wow, that's the 2nd Coil puke I have ever seen in my life. Another one where a user hooked up 12v to it, exploded like an M80.

Keep us informed on your progress.

the coil for the s-4 comes with a rubber cover (the black part on top thats all disintegrated) make sure you definitely get a new one as well if it doesnt come with the coil. good luck with tearing it apart to get the terminal connectors off, hopefully their still intact and dont need to be reterminated by cutting the wire.

best of luck,
Jonathan.

Actually, the protective cap was intact. The above picture was after I removed the cap. That black stuff was like hardened wax and it easily came off with a well placed screwdriver to where I was able to get to the terminals easily. I have now replaced the coil and it runs much better - but now I've noticed something else. It appears as if the electrical system is producing too much voltage - actually 18.7VDC! This is at idle, no less. I figure the alternator needs to come out and get checked. I don't need any runaway voltage spikes causing other issues (if its not too late).

Here's a picture of what I scraped off of the offending coil:

Replace the Voltage Regulator on the Alternator. I did this a couple weeks ago on my S. I got a new one from 928srus.com Roger is his name. The VR brand is a Huco. Made in Germany, so good stuff.

+1 on voltage regulator. almost ready to adopt a 24v system there :P

How much was the voltage regulator?

Roger is my new friend. I order some parts from him this morning. Great guy! Looks like I'll be calling him again tomorrow..

I believe it was around $35 shipped. I actually had a purchased a Reman Alt from Advanced Auto, but still wasn't happy with my readings. Bought a VR from Roger and the rest is history. Stupid Reman had a Chinese VR on it.

Not very many active members. They show up once in awhile. Most users just use the forum for the content and don't really participate.
