Post Transmission cable help.
ok gents,

So my tranny cable snapped. I have dropped the exhaust and heat shields. I have pulled everything off of the shifter inside, but I cant seem to get the shifter mechanism out. I have pulled the cable off of it, but there seems to be something attached to the back side of the shifter that goes under the tunnel. Of course since the torque tube is in the way I cant see it or how to remove it. Does anyone have any pics of this or some kind of diagram showing whats under there that needs removed?

Thanks, Ramon

Funny, I was just asking the same question in another Forum and you've just answered it. Look's like the Mechanism can only be pulled if the TT is dropped according to your finding.

Son of A....! lol this isnt something I wanted to be right on... but according to this diagram, i way be able to disconnect the cable farther down stream and pull the whole unit(cable and all) out the top. I will try this tomorrow evening and let you know.

Dano.

Looking at the Porsche service manual. Volume 2, page 121, section 37... shows a picture of the gear selector assembly coming out of the top. Granted this is with the tranny removed, but im thinking it can be done as long as the cable is free everywhere else rearward. Again, I will be attempting this tomorrow and let you know.

Cool, thanks. I too looked at some diagrams and saw nothing holding it from the bottom.

Ok Dano. So what you have to do to move the cable is.

1: disconnect the cable from the gear selector on the transmission.
2: remove the cable from the bracket on the drivers side of the tranny. This is done by loosening the two 14mm nuts on the cable(one is part of the cable and the other is a jam nut)
3: remove the bolts holding down the shifter mechanism inside the cab( obviously after you remove the covers ect.)
4: pull the mechanism up and forward enough so you can disconnect the cable from the shifter.
5: lastly pull the cable out from underneath of the car.

My Cable still is in tact but the plastic sleeves around the cable it's self are broke and causing the cable to bind up. Figures that a 30 year old piece of plastic would go bad huh. Hope this helps. If you need pics lmk.

Pics for all would be awesome. I take it that it was #2 that was holding it down. Great job in figuring it out. Gives us all hope when working in this are to not have to drop the TT.
