Post Steering question.
Steering creaks and groans when turning, even lightly.
I'm guessing it's the hydraulic fluid.

Where do I fill it and with what recommended fluid?

Thank you in advance :)

I believe the Manual says to use ATF. I actually used Power Steering Fluid in mine without issue. It's the aluminum reservoir on the front right (drivers) side of the engine compartment. A Small circular nut is what holds the cover down.

Post a Video or Sound as I am not sure what your creak sounds like. Helps in troubleshooting. Where exactly does the sound come from?

It sounds like the creaking old shock absorbers make , sort of a springy or leaf spring creak, but definitely comes from the steering when turning the steering wheel left (counter clockwise).

I think the best way to troubleshoot is to get someone you trust, put it up on stands. Have that trustworthy person move the steering back and forth as you inspect it from beneath. Something bent, bushings or just a bad rack assembly. Just a guess though since I never had this issue before.

I'll put it up on a lift this weekend and check.. I'm hoping its just a bad joint or something, not a bad steering box..
btw, does the 82 have Rack and pinion or a steering box?
