Post New guy with shifter bushing questions
Hi
I am new to this forum and new to a 928, I just purchased an '80 928 with 90,000 on the clock.
5 speed, shot interior but good body and seems to be very original. This is my 3rd Porsche and I am a long time vintage racer with a history in Lotus Cortina's, Alfa's etc.
On to my question, just had my 928 ( post purchase inspection) nothing like an impulse buy......
at Griffin in Berkeley and since this is was an estate sale there are no records....ta da...
Everything seems to be Ok, but I need shifter bushings. Rowing a whale boat has more feel. How and where do I find them
Any clues?
This is my first of years worth of questions....but i am in this. It's a very cool car. ( I used to sit at the dealership and stare for hours at the first new 928's. I had a 73 T and could hardly afford one at the time.

Help!

Cheers

Inexpensive fix for the rear shifter coupler.

You'll need to get underneath and determine if the play is in the rear coupler (back at the transaxle) or the ball socket (up at the very front of the torque tube), or both.

Couple options if it's the front ball socket, you can either replace the ball socket with a new one or convert over to a short shifter by 928srus.com (their shifter eliminates the ball cup entirely).

As a quick temp fix for the front ball cup, you can get a large hose clamp at Home Depot and wrap it around the torque tube and shifter rod (just behind the ball socket). This will exert enough downward pressure on the worn ball socket to keep things tight and eliminate any play from the front side of the shifter.
